  • Law and Order DVD 1-10 Boxset--highly recommended.

Par joycechen dans Accueil le 29 Septembre 2010 à 09:53

Providing that the viewer tries to keep up, this shouldn't be a problem but allow your attention to drop for a moment and Law & Order can slip away, moving with such momentum that it can be difficult to catch up with it. However, if you're interested in what is an excellent example of the type of smart American crime drama that is occasionally produced by a major networked channel, rather than HBO, and actually makes it to the UK, then this may well be for you. Before buying, I'd recommend that you try the current showing of Season Nine on Five or any of Law and Order on the Hallmark Channel. After that, it should be rather easier to justify this box set of Season One. this is great stuff - highly recommended.

  • Two and a Half Men fares better with its variation on a theme.

Par joycechen dans Accueil le 29 Septembre 2010 à 09:47

"Two and a Half Men, after only one episode, already feels like Full House Redux: cool and crazy Uncle Charlie uses his nephew as a ""chick magnet,"" Jake plays cards with Charlie's seedy poker buddies, and -- you guessed it -- the little tyke cleans up. I'd bet money that soon we'll be seeing Uncle Charlie, the bungling bachelor, burn a TV dinner. If you watch it on a black and white TV and squint you might mistake Two and a Half Men for Love That Bob. But at least Bob Cummings' energy kept you engaged. Sadly, the same can't be said for Sheen's somnambulant performance. While I wouldn't expect him to bring anything approximating Andy Dick's manic energy to the role, a little enthusiasm would be nice in Two and a Half Men. If Uncle Charlie is supposed to be a boy in a man's body, how about exhibiting some youthful exuberance? Sadly, as well, Sheen's newly paunchy appearance makes it a little hard to believe him as the ""ladies' man"" he's reputed to be. In the premiere, one woman was all over him in his bedroom, another was stalking him, and a couple more hit on him in the grocery store. Such ostensible popularity with the opposite sex suggests a charisma and physicality that isn't borne out in Sheen's character or performance. "

  • The American "Queer as Folk" is written by Ron Cowen & Daniel Lipman.

Par joycechen dans Accueil le 29 Septembre 2010 à 09:42

"The American ''Queer as Folk'' is written by executive producers Ron Cowen and Daniel Lipman, who also created ''Sisters'' and wrote the Emmy winning TV movie about an AIDS death, ''An Early Frost.'' Anyone familiar with those credits knows that Cowen and Lipman prize melodrama and the zippy quip over ambivalence and the belly laugh. Thus the opening hours of their ''Queer As Folk,'' while hewing closely to the actions of its British counterpart right down to certain camera movements, is clotted with yuks that wouldn't have made it out of the ''Three's Company'' writer's room. Bad puns and wheezy references to Judy Garland aside, the new ''Queer as Folk'' lacks a soul at its center. In the Brit version, Brian's character (called Stuart) was played by Aiden Gillen with ferocious intelligence and a profound despair that nevertheless did not contradict the pleasure he took in drugging and fornicating. In our ''Queer As Folk,'' Brian seems merely truculent and, most disappointingly, rather stupid whenever he's not making remarks that don't fit his character.

  • Monk was simply amazing. Just amazing.

Par joycechen dans Accueil le 29 Septembre 2010 à 09:37

"With the name of Trudy’s killer in his sight, Adrian spent no time chasing after him and I applaud that effort. Too many times things are dragged out, but since this is the last episode ever, I’m glad they jumped right into things and had Monk go after her killer head on. Despite being close to death, Monk released all the pent up aggression over these past 12 years into guest star Craig T. Nelson. His spontaneous leap of aggression kind of startled me for a little. This wasn’t a side of Monk we’ve seen before, but the entire time I was behind him 100%. The performance that Tony Shalhoub gave as a close-to-death Monk was simply amazing. I’m not sure how many people caught it, but when Stottlemeyer entered his hospital room with the case folder proving Monk correct, there was a single tear coming from his eye. Just amazing."

  • Law and Order is an hour long drama that premiered on NBC.

Par joycechen dans Accueil le 15 Juillet 2010 à 07:21
""Law and Order is an hour long drama that premiered on NBC. The show follows a simple but compelling formula. The first half of the show is about a police investigation into some crime. The second half of the show is the DA's office taking the case from the police.

The show has a good cast but due to the show's format, there is little character development. Thus, the show is accessible to anyone regardless of season. You needn't watch the show in episode order. This is both a benefit and detriment. The lack of character development allows the writers to explore the story more fully but lacks the substance of other police dramas such as The Shield (a show with both profound story and character development).

The cast of the first season includes George Dzundza as Detective Max Greevey. His partner is Chris Noth's Detective Mike Logan. Logan is the younger, smart aleky cop to Greevey's older, street smart detective.
Their supervisor is Dann Florek's character Captain Donald Cragen. Cragen is the cliche police adminstrator who is forever worried about the politics of a given case. """
